Revision of the Master Plan

Revision to the Marine Park Master Plan: a Dynamic and Participatory Exercise

The master plan sets out the Marine Park’s main directions and vision for the next few years. The first plan must now be revised as mandated by its incorporating Acts.

The Working Group tasked with the revision of the plan is composed of representatives from Canada and Quebec. Their work is validated by the Marine Park’s Coordinating Committee.

This revision is the opportunity to note what has been accomplished since the park was created in 1998 and to consult the population on the orientations and vision of the marine park in order to update the master plan according to new knowledge and comments received.

Reaching the main objective of the Saguenay–St. Lawrence Marine Park - the conservation of its marine ecosystems - is an immense project requiring the involvement of all: governments, municipalities, organizations, people living in the coordination area and visitors.

Public Consultation and Participation Program

It is through public consultation that the opinions and comments of citizens and stakeholders can be collected.

Communication interventions are carried out at the main stages of the master plan’s revision aimed at the most important stakeholders. Citizens and representatives of organizations are informed about how to participate in the public consultation. They will be referred to the consultation document and asked to participate in information sessions.

These public sessions will be held at the beginning of 2008 in four municipalities in the coordination area: Les Escoumins, La Malbaie, Saguenay (La Baie district) and Rivière-du-Loup. The dates and places of these meetings will be published in regional weekly papers and on the marine park’s website. Citizens and representatives of organizations will then have a reasonable amount of time to send their written comments or memorandums.

Keep in touch with the master plan’s revision on its website where various consultation documents will be posted.
