Coordinating Committee

To support the enhancement and management of the marine park, and to comply with the park’s incorporating legislation, the Department of Canadian Heritage and Québec’s Ministère de l’Environnement et de la Faune (Ministry of Environment and Wildlife) have established a coordination structure known as the Coordinating Committee, whose members represent the federal and provincial governments, the regional community and the Essipit Montagnais Band Council.

The committee acts in the following areas:
  • protection of the marine resources and ecosystems;
  • education and interpretation;
  • visitor reception and orientation;
  • enhancement of the park and its resources;
  • marketing and promotion of the park;
  • integration of the park into the regional community;
  • studies and research pertaining to park management;
  • park management orientations and strategies; and
  • protection of Amerindian sites and cultural resources.
The existence of the committee does not challenge the accountability of its constituent parties. The aim is to foster collaboration and complementarity to avoid contradictions and overlapping in actions taken by partners.
