Participatory management in a marine park setting is founded on the notion of partnership. Local communities, organisations and private-sector businesses established within the coordination area and likely to be affected by issues regarding the park are invited to work together.
To ensure integration of this managerial method into administrative frameworks, the governments responsible for managing the park have set up a 9-member coordinating committee. The mandate of this committee is to make sure the management plan is followed and to present recommendations to park managers regarding the strategies and conditions required to reach the general objectives of the marine park. Thus, with the committee’s assistance, actions to protect and enhance the park are chosen in a collaborative and complementary manner.
